How to Grow Goji Berries

The plants grow well in rich, well-draining soil with an alkaline pH of 8.2 to 8.6. A soil additive, such as wood ash works well as a fertilizer for goji since the high mineral content of the ash makes it alkaline.
If starting indoors, surface sow the goji seeds and press into the soil. Be sure to always keep the soil moist but never soggy; allowing the soil to dry out can kill the seeds. When the plants have at least two sets of leaves it should be easy to separate them. Plant them outside a couple of weeks after the last frost date has passed. Germination takes approximately one to two weeks. The plants will start to produce goji berries in about two to three years.
