Nantes Carrot Seeds
Nantes carrot is an open-pollinated, heirloom variety. This brilliant orange carrot is crisp and coreless and has a sweet and great tasting flavour! These carrots taste great whether they are eaten fresh, juiced, or frozen for later use. These carrots are a great source of vitamins and minerals.
Although the carrots will mature in 70 days, they can be left in the ground until late in the season for harvest. Carrot tops are edible and very nutritious. They can be added raw to salads, blanched, and added to soups.
How to Grow Carrots
Carrots prefer to be planted in full sun. The carrot seeds can be planted approximately 3-5 weeks before the last spring frost or 10-12 weeks before the first fall frost. Plant the seeds in loose, fertile soil with a pH of 5.8 to 6.8. Directly sow the carrot seeds into the garden bed. The seeds will germinate faster when the temperature of the soil is close to 23C (75F). A generous amount of compost should be mixed into the bed before the seeds are planted. Do not let the soil dry out before the seeds have germinated. Sow ¼”- 1/2” deep and spaced about 2” apart in rows that are 6”- 8” apart. Germination takes approximately 10-21 days. The carrots will mature in 70 days.
