How to Grow Carrots

Carrots prefer to be planted in full sun. Sow the seeds approximately 3-5 weeks before the last spring frost or 10-12 weeks before the first fall frost. Plant the seeds in loose, rich soil with a pH of 5.8 to 6.8. Directly sow the carrot seeds into the garden bed. The seeds will germinate faster when the temperature of the soil is close to 23C (75F). A generous amount of compost should be mixed into the bed before the seeds are planted. Do not let the soil dry out before the seeds have germinated. Sow ¼”- 1/2” deep and spaced 2” apart in rows that are 6”- 8” apart. Germination takes approximately 10-21 days. The carrots will mature in 70 days.
