About

Seed Bank is 100% Canadian owned and operated. We are an online retailer of garden seeds. All of our seeds are non-GMO, untreated, and many selections are organic. We are committed to never selling GMO products. Seed Bank was originally started in Oshawa, ON, but is now located in Port Hope, ON.

Our Mission

We strive to sell the highest quality garden seeds at the best price. Our goal is to sell organic varieties whenever possible. We try to source our seeds locally, and always from reputable sources. Our aim is to continue providing free planting information on our garden blog and product pages, to educate the public on various gardening techniques, sustainability, and importance of organic gardening. We hope to build a great, Canadian gardening community on our site!

Encouraging Gardening

Canadians can benefit in a myriad of ways simply by starting their own garden, either at home or a local garden plot. Growing and maintaining a garden educates us all on the importance on having a clean, healthy environment. It also provides families the experience of tasting the freshest fruits, herbs and vegetables possible, an experience that can’t be found at the grocery store. Especially in this modern age, when some produce is shipped from literally thousands of kilometers away! Not to mention some of the dirty, chemical, and heavy metal laden environments some of this produce is grown in.

Helping the Environment

Growing a garden at home is also a great way to save money. It encourages people to compost their plant based food scraps, tea and coffee grounds, thereby reducing landfills. Industrial scale farming often depletes the soil of trace minerals that are never added back to the soil. Composting and recycling food scraps, tree leaves, and grass enables home gardeners to build up mineral rich, fertile, garden beds.

To sum it up, gardening is a great way for Canadians to:

  • Eat home grown, delicious, nutritious food
  • Get a healthy dose of sunshine, exercise and fresh air!
  • Support the local wildlife, birds, mammals, and insects
  • Save money, and much much more!

On the environment note, the use of herbicides, pesticides, and mono-crop lawns has impacted wildlife greatly. Pollinators, such as bees require a regular, and diverse source of blooming flowers. The monarch butterfly solely feeds and lays eggs on milkweed. For a long time, milkweed has been treated as a despised ‘weed’ and destroyed. By planting a garden on our properties we can help the whole environment around us!

Chemical Free and Natural Seeds!

Whether it’s our fruit seeds, herb seeds, flower seeds or vegetables seeds, all of our products are non-GMO. None our seeds are not treated with any toxic chemicals, such as pesticides which are commonly used for giving seeds a longer shelf life. Although most garden seeds available today are still non-GMO, this may not always be the case, and we will always avoid selling genetically modified seeds. At this time, the genetically modified seeds tend to be the grains, such as wheat, corn, and soy.

Seed Bank is committed to providing a better selection of garden seeds each year and the best possible quality. We want for you to be happy with your purchase of our seeds, and so we strive to accomplish that with each and every one of our customers.seed bank, canada seed bank
